Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) Central Campus

The meeting will take place in the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) Central Campus. The Central Building of the CSIC Central Campus (see picture) is located at Serrano 117. The meeting will be celebrated in the Central Hall (see picture below).

CSIC Central Campus is located in one of the most important and commercial streets of Madrid (Serrano), in the Embassies’ quarter, not far from the downtown, ten minutes walking from the Paseo de la Castellana, 30 minutes by Metro from Puerta del Sol (downtown centre) and half an hour by taxi from Madrid-Barajas airport. CSIC Central campus can be conveniently reached by Subway Line 6 (GRAY LINE), “Republica Argentina” station (exit “Joaquín Costa, pares). A map of Central Campus is depicted below.

City bus (EMT) lines # 16, 19, and 51 and N1 (night service) pass by the CSIC Central Campus. Information about current fares and time tables can be obtained in the EMT web page (in Spanish). Briefly,

From the airport:

Madrid-Barajas airport has four terminals. As described in the homepage of the airport, all terminals are conveniently connected to the Metro Subway Line 8 (PINK LINE), which ends up in “Nuevos Ministerios”, 10 min. walk from the CSIC Central Campus (see the map below). Several bus lines run from the Madrid-Barajas airport to downtown Madrid (click here). For example, you can use the EMT Airport Express Service 24h to/from “Plaza de Cilbeles”.

Taxis are also available at Madrid-Barajas airport (about half an hour to CSIC Central Campus and a fixed rate of 33 EUR).

In addition to regular taxis, there are two buses connecting Barajas airport and the city of Madrid. They are EMT (Empresa Municipal de Transportes) line 203 Airport Express (price 5 euros) and line 200 (price 1,70 euros). You can find information on these two lines in the link

When you get into that link, you will see the information in Spanish, but in the upper right corner you can change to English. The bus of the 203 line is of green color, while the bus of line 200 is of blue color. Each of these two buses have a stop in the terminals T1, T2, and T4. The two buses are very frequent (typically every 15-20 min.). Do not confuse these two buses with a third bus in blue color which is free of charge and just connect terminals T1, T2, and T4 inside the airport, without getting out to Madrid city. You can ask in the information point of your arrival terminal the specific location of the stop of the 203 or the 200 bus.

Bus 203 has three stops in Madrid city (O’Donnell, Cibeles, Atocha), and in each of them you can take the metro in order to reach your specific hotel. Bus 200 only has one stop in Madrid city, in the bus zone at the Intercambiador of Avenida de América. Very close to the 200 bus stop at the Intercambiador of Avenida de América, just going down one floor, you can take the metro at the station of Avenida de América (it will take you about 3-4 minutes by foot to get to the metro station from the bus stop), and reach your hotel by metro. There are four metro lines passing through the station of Avenida de América. In addition, for the people staying at Residencia the Estudiantes hotel at CSIC campus, the metro station of Avenida de América is separated by only one metro stop from the metro station República de Argentina, in metro line 6, which is the closest metro station to CSIC campus and therefore to Residencia de Estudiantes hotel. When getting to the República de Argentina stop, take the exit of Juan de la Cierva street, and after a walk of about 5 minutes you will get to the CSIC entrance.
